Title:  The Redemption of Emma Devine

Released:  October 1, 2017

Blurb:

After the upheaval of being dumped by his girlfriend, David Patterson leads a quiet life as a high school teacher in the small Southern town of Pine Bluff, Alabama. Soon to enroll in seminary, his dreams are within his grasp.

But a chance encounter with Emma Devine changes everything. She’s on the run, desperate, and surviving by any means possible. His pastor’s heart longs to help her—and the rest of him is rather intrigued as well.

His random act of kindness brings them together, but Emma makes an unfathomable decision—one that threatens to destroy two lives, though her intention is to save one.

Four years later, Emma returns, seeking redemption. But can David—whose dreams took a very different course after their last meeting—forgive her and risk losing everything?

Excerpt:

She found herself staring at David’s lips. They were perfect—not too thin, not too full, and always smiling, like now. She liked the scruff on his face and wondered what it would feel like against her neck. And he smelled good, too—a soft aftershave that wasn’t too overpowering and clean laundry detergent. Not cheap men’s cologne, body odor, and sweat. Not stale beer and rotten teeth. Not what she was used to.

Without thinking, Emma reached over and cupped his cheek. She ran her thumb across his bottom lip. He sat still, watching her face. His pupils dilated, and his breathing hitched. Leaning forward, she closed her eyes and brought her lips to his. Marveling at their warmth, she was pleasantly surprised when David shifted, drawing her closer. She didn’t kiss many men. They usually weren’t interested in the niceties of foreplay.

His hand raked through her hair as his lips parted and moved against hers. She deepened the kiss, and her tongue darted in his mouth, exploring, running along his teeth. When she moved her hands to his neck, running her fingers through his dark waves, a jolt of longing snaked down her body into the pit of her stomach.

She couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt something for a man. The only other man she’d ever cared for had died a world away, more than seven months ago... David moved his lips to trail kisses across her jaw. He murmured her name softly in her ear, his warm breath and beard tickling her neck.

Emma pulled away, her world spinning like a bad acid trip. She covered her hot cheeks, shocked. That kiss had moved her more than she cared to admit. Even her toes had curled.

“Wow. You don’t kiss like a preacher.” Was that really my voice—all breathy and soft?

“Kissed many, have you?” His dark eyes crinkled with amusement.

“Not that I’m aware of, but you never know. Kissed many hookers?”

“Not that I’m aware of.” His grin widened, and he laughed. “Probably not.”

Nancee Cain spends her nights writing paranormal and contemporary romances with a serrated edge. Her husband swears her To-Be-Read list on her e-read qualifies her as a certifiable book hoarder. Always looking to try something new, she dreams of being an extra in a Bollywood film or a tattoo artist. (Her lack of rhythm and artistic ability may put a damper on both of these dreams.)
