Interview With Carla Swafford and Giveaway

Southern Magic is proud to introduce Carla Swafford!

She will be at our luncheon in Hoover, Alabama November 5 with Jennifer Ashley, Hildie McQueen, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lynn Raye Harris, Dianna Love and 20 plus authors.

Who are your top five authors to read?
Linda Howard, Anne Stuart, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Cherise Sinclair, and Sawyer Bennett.

What is your go-to book to read over and over again?
So many and depends on my mood. I guess the oldest story I still re-read on occasion is Rainbow Season by Lisa Gregory (aka Candace Camp).

Who influenced your writing the most?
Several authors, but the key one is Linda Howard.

I love her strong heroes and heroines. Her stories are unique and sensual. It was her story All the Queen's Men that encouraged me to write my first published book, Circle of Desire. Now don't go reading my book thinking it will be like Ms. Howard's. It's not. At all.

Describe where you are the most productive when you write.
On the comfy love-seat in my study with soft classical music playing on my TV.

Tells us a little about your current book?
Full Heat is the second book in the Brothers of Mayhem duo. It can be read without reading the first one, Hidden Heat. Here's the blurb.

Forget shining armor. Motorcycle shop owner Mary Jane Parker could use a knight in black leather right about now. A local gang has been extorting her for protection money, and standing her ground would be a lot easier with the Brothers of Mayhem at her back. She just needs to convince the club’s new president to take the job. The powerful, brooding biker claims he’s not interested—but if his version of tough love is supposed to be punishment, Mary Jane would gladly misbehave for the rest of her life.

Storm Ryder has no interest in rescuing anyone but himself. He spent three agonizing years in prison, and there’s no way in hell he’s going back, not over a spoiled rich girl who’s flirting with trouble. So why does he find himself craving Mary Jane’s lips—and holding her close when he should be pushing her away? Deep down in his tortured soul, Storm knows she’ll be there for him. And when Mary Jane needs him most, he’ll find the courage to give her everything he’s got.

Show us your one favorite scene of dialogue from that book.
[Storm and Mary Jane staying in a motel during a run to Maggie Valley, TN.

"Did you undress me?"

"I sure as h*ll wouldn't let anyone else do it."

She grinned. His possessiveness was like being dipped into warm chocolate. Delicious and soothing. Besides, it told her that he felt something for her too.

"Well, you stripped me for a reason. What could that be?" She scooted closer and walked her fingers across his chest and grinned big as he shivered.

"D*mn it, Mary Jane, don't mess with me." He pushed her shoulders until she was flat on the bed, and he hovered over her, their lips less than an inch apart. "I thought to help you sleep better." His gaze followed the path of his roaming hand. He cupped her breast and slid a thumb across her taut nipple. She arched and pressed against him. "You're so f*cking sexy when you respond like that. I can tell you're not faking it. You love it when I pet you. Like you never can get enough.”

He chuckled. "That's what I like best about you. You don't play games. You know what you want and you go with it."

"True." She cupped his hard c*ck through the denim. "Now let's talk about a few games that are fun to play. Like how long I can hold my breath?"

She unzipped his jeans and dipped her head.

"Damn, sweet cheeks!"

What do you believe makes a man sexy?
His gentleness and his sense of humor.

Here's her short bio.
Carla Swafford loves romance novels, action/adventure movies, and men, and her books reflect that. Plus she's a rare creature in the Deep South, she loves hockey. Carla's married to her high school sweetheart and lives in Alabama.

Kim Law is such a nice lady. She and I shared a table at the readers luncheon Huntsville a few years ago. Thanks for comment, Suz. (I'm guessing it's Suz and not Allan that answered. Of course, if the guy did, that would be cool too. HA!)

I thought I had more, but I have these two by Carolly Erickson.
The Medieval Vision: Essays in History And Perception (1976)
Bloody Mary: The Life of Mary Tudor (1978)

Yes, I use to read these for pleasure. Big history buff here. :-) Now I read about undercover cops in outlaw motorcycle clubs and bounty hunters along with what type of gun is best suited for what career.

Thanks for commenting.

Well, bn100candg, maybe this month we can solve that problem. :-) Thanks for commenting.

I am reading DESERT GOD by Wilbur Smith. It's part of his Ancient Egypt series.

Carla- I think the ones you have are before she started doing fiction - they sound like great resources. I also love to read bios, etc for fun. LOL

And reading about buff cops undercover is pretty awesome, too. :)
