You're working on a book and decided you rather do the traditional publishing thing. Anyone can self-publish, but it would be so much nicer to have an established publisher buy it. So where do you go? RWA National at Anaheim in July? That's a possibility, but so expensive for most of us. What's another option? Moonlight and Magnolias in Atlanta? But that's not until October.
Plus are you tired of the cold? Sure it hasn't been a harsh winter like last year, but cold is cold. Doesn't the beach sound nice about now? Can you hear the soft waves lapping over the white sand? Feel the warm sun teasing your skin and giving you a healthy glow?
What does all the above have in common? Silken Sands Writers' Conference at Penascola Beach. Yes. The hotel is on the beach and the editor/agent appointments are held on the patio looking over the beach. What better way to think positive about your book and writing career to be? Do I need to say more? Okay. Here's some more details.
March 16-18, 2012
Keynote speaker is Beverley Kendall, author of The Elusive Lords Series.
The kick-off speaker will be Barbara Vey of the Publishers Weekly fame. You need to check out her blog. The week before the conference, she'll be giving away lots of prizes, including five of my book, Circle of Desire.
Okay. Now you're wondering who else will be there. Well, that is besides me. You can talk to me anytime here. So let's look at the editors and agents attending.
Amanda Bergeron, Assistant Editor @ HarperCollins/Avon
Angela James, Executive Editor @ Carina Press
Holly Blanck, Associate Editor @ St. Martin's Press
Grace Bradley, Editor @ Ellora's Cave
Lucienne Diver, Literary Agent @ The Knight Agency
Jenny Bent, Literary Agent @ The Bent Agency
Sandy Sullivan, Executive Editor, Secret Cravings Publishing
And, yes, pitch appointments are available. For more information about each of the editors and agents, you can check them out at Silken Sands' website.
Now it's time for me to get back to my writing. I'm on book #3 of The Circle series (tentatively titled Circle of Deception). Book #2, Circle of Danger, is due to be released June 26.
Oh, if you're wondering, it's the Gulf Coast Romance Writers who is putting on the conference, and they do a wonderful job each time.
Hope to see you on the beach!
