Let's Celebrate!

First, click on the video below and let it play while you read my post.

Okay. Music going?  Now read...

If you haven't heard or figured it out from some of the comments on the blog recently, I've gotten THE CALL! That means HarperCollins wants one of my manuscripts to publish for their Avon Impulse imprint. Well, not only do they want the one they read but another one too! Yes, siree! Count'em, folks.  TWO.  UNO. DOS. Do a peace sign and you got the number. AND (you can't believe it can get any better? I couldn't either) they're tentatively scheduled for the Fall and Winter of THIS freaky year!

So to celebrate, I will be giving away TWO Amazon gift cards ($25 each/1 per commenter) to TWO commenters. Hopefully, they can be used overseas too.  If not, I'll try to think of some surprise if you win.

There are only two rules. You must comment on this post and you must tell me about something good that happened to you this year. Don't cheat and say, "Carla getting THE CALL was the best thing that happened to me." That's sweet, but I want to hear about you. It can be anything, not just about writing. We're thinking positive here.

Oh, the more you comment, the more chances you have at winning! They must be comments, not just happy faces or symbols.  :-)  No cheating remember!

Be sure to comment and come back on the 21st. I'll have the winner's name posted under the video. My youngest will draw a name from folded up names printed on slips of paper.

If you want to know more about THE CALL, go to my blog click here.  Yes. I'm an overachiever and write on two blogs.

[Announcement of Winners: It is with much pleasure I announce that JoAnn and Marilyn (Playground Monitor) are the winners of the two Amazon gift cards. Email me at carlaswafford@charter.net and I'll arrange to have the cards/certificates sent to you. CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for participating!]

Congratulations Carla! That is so fantastic!

Something good that happened to me -- I queried two books at the same time and they're both out on partial requests.

Awesome, Anne! Congratulations! I expect to hear good news from you soon.

Woohoo! This is such aweseome news. I am so happy for you!

Something good that happened to me: I changed jobs within my company, and for the first time in years, I LOVE what I'm doing.

Congratulations, that's great news. My best news so far this year is my little granddaughter is finally gaining some weight and they won't have to keep making trips to Children's Mercy Hospital all the time to check her. This is the best news ever.

I'm so happy for you, JoAnn. It's been a long time coming. You deserve that and much more. HUGS.

You know it was you and Diane that helped make my sale possible. You two are my critique partners.

That is wonderful news, Linda. It's so hard to see a little ones having problems.

Carla, you know I am over the moon about you! Something good that happened to me? My first book came out from Kensington on April 26th!!! Whoo hoo, nothing like it! Looking forward to your release date. Two books in one year. You go, girl!

It's nearly impossible for me to be positive. I'm the expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised type--especially lately. But I will say that I've queried a book and have 7 or 8 partials and fulls out now. Even if every one of them is a rejection, those that are out gave me the validation to know that I'm okay at this writing thing. And after the last few years, I wasn't sure I'd find anything I was good at again-- so that's hugely positive for me!

Carla Swafford said...

Thanks, Lexi, for your kind words. You've always been good to me.

Congratulations on your launch and may there be many, many more.

Hugs.

Lisa, I don't see you as a negative person. More like a person with her feet on the ground.

That's smart to have so many out there. Those who try get what they want. I have a feeling it's coming.

Congrats, Carla.

The biggest thing that happened to me this year was finaling in the Golden Heart for the first time ever. (Contemporary Series, Beauty and the Ballplayer.)

Woohoo!!! There is NOTHING like getting The Call! What a great feeling, and a great publisher, Carla! I know you're so excited. I'm really happy for you!

Something good that happened that I'd been dreaming about for years is that I am a finalist in the Christy Awards with my first published novel, The Healer's Apprentice! Found out a week and a half ago.

Congrats! And may this be just the beginning of your success. ^_^

Lets see...I wish I had a more meaningful 'good thing' aside from surviving the near-miss with the storms, I'm going to say that having an old friend offer to line-edit my manuscript for me for free has been the best thing to happen so far... I'm holding much more in expectation. ^_^

No one deserves it more, Carla!

Something good for this year? I did get some good reviews on my outlaw book. I guess that's the best thing so far.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is such great news. What has been positive in my life this year? I became a divorce group facilitator and have healed a lot myself by helping others with their healing.

I'm so excited for you!

Carla Swafford said...

Oh, Arlene, congratulations! And I like the positive thinking of first time as oppose to "only."

Carla Swafford said...

Melanie, congratulations. That's wonderful!

Carla Swafford said...

Angela, surviving that storm intact is certainly something to celebrate along with having a friend that's willing to help you in your road to publication. Congratulations.

Carla Swafford said...

Thanks, Mary. Now come back with something positive and I can add you to the drawing. :-)

Carla Swafford said...

Patricia, good reviews is one of the many things an author lives for! Congrats!

Carla Swafford said...

Thank you, Marilyn. That's so good to hear. I wish you continued happiness and success in your writing too! Hugs.

LOL! Sorry this took me so long.

Something positive:

I have a full request from an Agent I am working on....that's my good news.

I'm still excited for you! :D

So excited for you, Carla! Just awesome. I'm having a pretty good year, but I'm going to have to go with the GH final for my best news this year. ;-)

Can't wait to see your books!

Something really great happened for me today so I just had to add it. Back in late January I had to take an unexpected trip to the hospital and while I was there they told me my blood sugar was way too high. I had to get a meter and start checking it twice a day and see a doctor about it. I found out that I was medically induced diabetic from a medication I have to take for my RA. My A1C level was 6.9 and anything over 6.5 is considered diabetic. So I've been watching carbs and trying not to have to go on medication. I had until mid-June to reduce the A1C level. I just got some test results back today and the nurse asked me what I wanted the level to be and I said, no more than 6.5, but 6.3 would be great. Well she told me I hit the lottery because my new level was 5.3. So I'm elated that it's getting back to normal. Of course the down side is the last two treatments I just had to take will jack it up again, but I can at least show him the test results before the treatments so he will know it's actually better. Sorry to ramble on, but it was a big day for me.

I am so happy for you, Carla!! Grinning from ear-to-ear!! Smile splitting face happy for you!!!! So exciting. Okay, so I can't cheat and say it's all about you, so now I have to say that I have received a real Revise and Resubmit from Mills & Boon from their editor. I worked hard on it, and now I wait for more feedback. I'm excited because it brings me one step closer to my dream.

And you are proof that the dream is attainable no matter what--just NEVER GIVE UP!!!

:-) I put in a smiley face even though it doesn't count :-) Oh, make that dos!

Carla Swafford said...

That's great news, Mary. Wishing you luck!

Carla Swafford said...

Linda, I can only imagine how scary that was for you. That's wonderful neews indeed.

Just wanted to stop in and say that all of the good things that have happened to Carla and all of the ladies of Southern Magic this year ARE good things that happened to me. I am always so happy and proud when one of our crew hits a great landmark in their lives. Each time one of you succeeds it gives me hope and makes me want to try harder. So thanks for the inspiration.

And this year I have had a number of contest finals and wins, a really promising request, my agent LOVES my revisions and I joined a fabulous critique group of talented and generous ladies thanks to our very own Julie J. !!

Carla Swafford said...

Gwen, the Golden Heart final was something for sure to celebrate and shout about! Congratulations.

Hugs.

(Sorry I missed your post earlier.)

Carla Swafford said...

Louisa, that is for sure good news about your agent loving the revisions. I know how hard you've been working on them as you do all things. I do believe you have replaced Paula and Kelley as our contest queen diva. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN! LOL! Hugs.

If I have half the career success they have had I will be happy, Carla! Thanks!
