Saturday Gift!

It is Saturday.

If you're not working--you may be cleaning, shopping, or some doing some other type of chore. Maybe you're lucky and going to a party.

Perhaps you're not feeling well?

I have just the remedy--I am giving away a Barnes & Noble $10 gift card to someone who comments on this blog. (One draw back, you have to be in the Continental U.S. to get the Card--But be here tomorrow I have an E-book to give away and it doesn't matter where you are!)

My question of the day is: What gets you into a festive mood? A movie? A book? Hot drink?

Winner to be announced tomorrow in the comment section of this post.

My holiday trigger is watching "Christmas Vacation." Once I've laid eyeballs on the Clark, Ellen and the crew, I know it is time to sip egg nog and sing carols!

Christmas Vacation is classic, but White Christmas does it for me.

Heather,
I LOVE Christmas Vacation! That is one of my all time favorites too!

That really gets me festive (I also like the Santa Clause, with Tim Allen).

Lisa,
I've tried watching White Christmas. I think its neat you like it, what about it pulls at you? I ask, because I find it fascinating what people find in movies and books that draw them to watch or read them over and over.

Arriving home and closing the door on work for a couple of weeks, is all it takes to turn me into Burl Ives, as I float around the house singing happy little Christmas tunes.

Watching all the holiday movies usually puts me in a festive mood. I've already watched all the Home Alones and Die Hard 2, plus the Grinch so I'm ready for the holidays. I'm battling some health issues right now so hopefully they will improve before Christmas

Watching Scrooged. I totally believe Bill Murray has seen the light by the end of that movie. It's always inspiring.

I also now love to watch The Holiday, which is a romance.

I love the movie "Holiday Inn" with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Did you know the song "White Christmas" actually originated in that movie and not . . .er . . . "White Christmas," which came later? And I love "A Christmas Story." You'll put your eye out! Makes me laugh every time. My girls and I bake cookies together every year and that always makes me feel good.

Okay, I need to amend my earlier post. I left out two of the most important signals of the holiday season - Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Latte (its appearance signals fall is upon us) and Starbuck's Gingerbread Spice Latte (this is the source of most of my holiday weight each year). It's the most wonderful time of year!

I've been watching Christmas movies and reading Christmas Regency Anthologies since the day after Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I will FINALLY get my tree decorated and get all of my Christmas knick knacks and of course the dog that barks Christmas carols out to complete my holiday decor.

I love A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation! I've watched Home Alone 1 & 2, Scrooged, Christmas with the Kranks, Last Holiday, The Santa Clause, Miracle on 34th Street, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, While You Were Sleeping, A Christmas Carol, Deck the Halls, White Christmas, Holiday Inn and It's a Wonderful Life. Oh, and this year I added The Simpsons Christmas - a DVD of several Christmas episodes of The Simpsons!

Oh, and candy cane flavored hot chocolate! YUM!

This time of year I wish I had two darling little boys like Kat's to see the Christmas season through their eyes! Magical indeed!

Music definitely puts me in the mood. I play all the Pandora Christmas stations.

Mr. V,
Now that would be a sight to see you as Burl Ives. :-)
I actually like his tunes, and love Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.

And a week or two off from work, priceless!

Hello Linda,
Die Hard 2...I remember Die Hard, I have got to see that movie. Which Grinch do you prefer? The original or the movie with Jim Carrey?
I understand about the health issues and I hope things get better for you. :)

Callie,
I love "The Holiday", I saw that last year and I love it. I need to get that movie. I saw "Scrooged" once years ago...I think I need to re-visit that movie. It has never stuck with me..I love getting these movie ideas.

Kat,
Its wonderful when kids can enjoy the season--it makes it magical. My youngest is still excited about doing things for Christmas. My oldest is a tween and she's not as overt about it anymore. Which makes me sad...but you know, get a good movie in or a book and she's all there...:)

Hi Lexi,
I adore baking cookies with my children as well! What is your favorite?
And I LOVE A Christmas Story...we laugh through the whole thing.

Heather,
The Gingerbread Latte is to DIE for...I love that. I also have a weakness for Peppermint mochas (I can only get them in a small..they are so rich).
The scent of cinnamon also makes me feel festive. :)

Louisa,
I love "While you were Sleeping" I haven't seen that in over ten years...I've got to get that movie. Such a good one!

And I like how you get ready--reading, watching movies..and now decorating. Oh and Peppermint Hot chocolate is to die for. :-)

Now I have to admit, the barking dog ornament...that's cool!
