Cheers

Hey, everyone. I’m in a mooood today. I feel like I need to cheer people on ... get those dreams stoked.

So today I’d like to ask everyone--yes that’s you--to tell me where you’re at in your writing career? Are you actively seeking an agent? Perhaps you’d prefer to skip that part and go straight for the editor? Are you print-seeking only or welcoming e-publishers as well? Are you entering contests? If so, do you enter for feedback or just to get to that final judge? Maybe you’ve become a contest addict. I certainly want to hear about that. Or possibly, you just got started and you're dabbling in writing. You write a few sentences here or there, just to see how they look on the page. Or are you so overwhelmed with other responsibilities the closest you get to writing is a dream of dabbling? Me? I've done all of the above and not necessarily in that order.

Currently seeking agent.

Wow. That sounds like a want ad, doesn’t it? And maybe it is...

Tell me where you’re at in this process. I hope to hear from everyone on this blog. Let’s get those middle-of-the-week cheers going!!!

I'm starting out. I've been writing for ever, but always for myself and my enjoyment. I've been saying for a few years now that I wanted to actually pursue my dream, and these last couple of months I've taken it seriously.

I haven't finished anything yet, that's where I'm at. I'm trying to finish. I got a paranormal romance that I started for NaNo and I'm a little over half way done with it. I also have an erotic romance and I'm about 20% into that. Hopefully I finish one of those two stories soon.

I haven't entered any contests...unless you count a fan fiction contest that Linda Wisdom had back in September lol (which I did win :P). I think right now I'm just trying to focus on finishing something before worrying about the next step. I don't want to psych myself out or anything!

Let's see...Where? In the middle?

Seeking agent? Oh, yeah.

Editor? Of course.

Print or E-Pub? Both.

Contests? A few.

Feedback or Final Judge? Judge if I final but feedback is almost always good to get.

Addict? Could be. As I had promised myself not to enter any this year, but entered two with new manuscript. Probably enter one or two more, but that should be all for the year.

I write everyday, every minute I can. That's how I finished three last year. Will probably only finish two this year.

I think I am probably at the same place as Carla for the most part.

Seeking agent? Definitely. Getting ready to send queries out on book #2 next week.

Editor? Absolutely!

Print only at this point.

Originally for feedback and still love to read what judges have to say. Always helpful, even if it is negative.
More often now that I enter in search of a specific final judge who hasn't had the chance to read my work yet.

Addict? No. Contest Slut? Probably!

I try to write every day even if it is just a page. It is really hard with the 40 hour a week day job doing its best to suck the life out of me. I get most of my writing done on my two days off. As a result I only finish a book a year (between 300 and 400 pages) I would love to ditch the day job to write full-time as I know I could crank out two or more a year that way.

I can't say a bad thing about contests. I wound up published because of a contest, so I think there's nothing wrong with entering them. So long as you have a reason for doing so -- a finals judge you want to get in front of, or a new story you want to test out -- I think contests are grand. And you never know where they lead. :)

Before I sold, I knew I wanted an agent first. I also knew I wanted print and was determined to wait until it happened. That was just my plan.

Oh, I know what you mean, Louisa. Up until six months ago with the economy's turndown, I was working 40-50 hr weeks. Now it's only 40 hrs and hopefully not less in the future if things don't improve quick. The hubby complains about my time on the laptop, but he'll get over it when I sell.

Hmmmm--writing a lot--working on the process--
Contests: love/hate relationship with them. Love the feedback--hate to get close but no cigar. Enter for final judges and feedback (except GH--that's a diff entity)
Agent: nah--tried, but I am going straight to publishers who accept unagented work.
publishers? Print first, but now targeting good e publishers to expand my base
have I queried this year? nope--still editing/revising the third MS
Classes: I take a lot of online courses to improve my craft--and I get great feedback as well.
Why do I torture myself? I am also addicted to writing.
What am I doing now? waiting for feedback from my CP before I revise again (argh)
Biggest accomplishments this year? PRO status and writing a book in a week.

I am in limbo. I've been writing and writing...but work has really interefered. I've made changes (going part time)and hopefully that will up my word count.

I want to serach for an agent, and an editor, but I realize, I better have some manuscripts on hand. I can visualize the pitch to them "Really, I love writing, but I only a few un-edited chapters that I walked away from...and oh, I have this other one that I just keep writing on....." I shudder at the image.

Anyway, I still got a long ways to go, and like they say, sometimes it's not how fast you get there...its the journey along the way.
