An Empty Well

Today is my day to blog and I feel topicless. With everything else that has been going on in my life, the well is dry. Even for getting back into the book I was working on. I read the latest book by my favorite author last night and that didn't inspire me.

Do you ever feel like your well has gone dry? What do you do to refill it?

Books on writing help me -- especially books about characters and plot.

Also non-writing nonfiction helps me too.

Good luck!

I had a long dry spell last year and thought, this is it, I can't write anything more. It lasted through the new year. Then I took some online classes that inspired me. Then a fast draft class. Before I finished the classes, I felt as though I had new life and somehow started writing again.

I don't know if the same thing will happen again at some point or if it does, the same remedy will help. But I do know there's hope.

Don't give up, Debbie!

Something else that helped was a quote from another writer and I'm sorry I can't remember her name, but what she said struck a huge chord with me. She said, "Give yourself permission to write crap."
Having the freedom of doing just that really helped.

Good luck!

When my well's dry, I crave stimulants--music, a favorite movie and a review of my goals. Lately these tried and true methods have failed, so I've dug deeper--more research, time to myself, and long showers. Also, it helps to clear the clutter in my office so I can see my creative triggers.
